CREP Wetland | Floyd County, Iowa

WHKS provided design services to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) for two CREP wetland projects in Floyd County.

Services provided by WHKS included:

  • Site survey
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
  • Embankment (dam) design
  • Creation of wetland site plans
  • Bid letting assistance
  • Construction staking
  • Construction observation

The wetlands were strategically located to remove nitrates from runoff in cropland areas. The designs were performed in accordance with NRCS design standards and included constructing an earthen embankment with a primary spillway consisting of a sheet pile weir. The designs also included an auxiliary spillway and water control structure. The embankments are classified as low hazard dams in the State of Iowa.
