Safe Routes to School Improvements | St. Charles, Minnesota

WHKS assisted the City of St. Charles with safety improvements to a portion of 11th Street as part of the Safe Routes to School initiative. Safe Routes to School is a national program that assists communities to enable and encourage children to safely walk and bike to school.

WHKS provided preliminary and final plans and specifications for the reconstruction of 11th Street from 200 feet West of Whitewater Avenue (Trunk Highway 74) to Church Avenue. The project included preparation and submittal of a Project Memorandum to Minnesota Department of Transportation for safety improvements, ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps with new concrete sidewalk, bituminous street pavement, modifications to the storm sewer for the new street alignment and flashing crosswalk signs.

The project required extensive coordination with the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
